Why installers show OS warnings

Outpost's Windows and macOS installers are unsigned. That's not a bug — it's the honest state of a personal open-source project that hasn't paid for the certificates that make those warnings go away:

macOS needs an Apple Developer Program membership ($99/year) to notarize builds. Without it, you'll see "Outpost is damaged and can't be opened" — the fix is xattr -cr /Applications/Outpost.app in Terminal, covered on the download page.
Windows needs a code-signing certificate (roughly $200-400/year, and SmartScreen reputation takes time to build even after signing starts) to stop "Windows protected your PC" warnings. The workaround is More info → Run anyway.

Neither warning means the installer is unsafe — the full source is public on GitHub, and CI builds it in the open. It's purely that nobody's paid for a certificate yet.

Help fund real signing certs

Outpost isn't a company and never will be — this isn't a general "support the project" ask, it's a specific, honest target: an Apple Developer membership and a Windows code-signing cert, so installers stop scaring people off on first launch.
